Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ is a grappling art that was created by the legendary Gracie family. Jiu-Jitsu uses angles, leverage, and superior body positioning to control and dominate an opponent’ s body movement. This style allows for a smaller person to defeat a much larger attacker. Jiu Jitsu is excellent for women who are often taken to the ground during assaults. We recommend this style for men, women, and children looking for a great workout and realistic self-defense. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is similar and complementary to the Olympic Sport of Judo. In our curricula, we believe that it is not only important to control our opponent on the ground, but also on our feet.
Ed Clay’ s Nashville MMA is under the legendary Lloyd Irvin Association based out of
Washington DC. He's the only person in the World to hold black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,
Combat Sombo and Judo.
In 2002 he was named The United States Judo Federation International Coach of the year. Also in 2004 he was named the NAGA North American Grappling Associations Instructor of the Year as well as The Grapplers Quest 2004 Instructor of the Year.
We have 6 black belts that teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Nashville MMA. Ed Clay founder and head instructor is a black belt with over 12 years experience. He holds all of his instructors to the highest standards to insure the highest standards.
